French planes struck Islamic State targets in Syria for a third night on Tuesday as police in France began seeking a ninth possible suspect for the Paris attacks.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the coordinated attacks in the French capital on Friday, killing at least 129 people, stating it was in retaliation for air raids in Iraq and Syria.

The Tuesday evening bombings in Raqqa were carried out by France and Russia, marking the first tentative steps towards a possible military alliance.

The two countries were not coordinating their operations, but French President Francois Hollande has called for a global campaign against extremists in the wake of the Paris attacks.

Russia suffered an attack at the hands of Islamic State on October 31 after a Metrojet flight from Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, was downed over the Sinai desert, killing all passengers and crew onboard.

French authorities today said they believed two other men were involved in Friday’s attacks in Paris, alongside seven other attacks who died.

Police also discovered two places in the French capital where the militants are believed to have stayed before the terror spree and a third car, thought to have been used in the operation, was found abandoned.

French prosecutors have so far identified four Frenchmen among the dead assailants and a fifth man who was fingerprinted among refugees in Greece last month.
