Saudia Arabian royals have called the son of Jamal Khashoggi to “express their condolences”, after the kingdom admitted the journalist had been murdered.

It came as Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan promised to reveal the “naked truth” surrounding his death.

Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman both contacted Mr Khashoggi's son, Salah, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Mr Khasoggi, known as a critic of the government, entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 and never came out.

Saudi Arabia stated 18 suspects are in custody and intelligence officials have been fired in relation to the incident.

His death has since been described as a murder by Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir, who promised to “punish those who are responsible”.

As the Saudi government has stated it will release further details as they become available, Turkish President Erdogan has vowed to reveal more information on Tuesday.

"I will make my statement about this issue on Tuesday at the party group meeting," Erdogan said in a speech in Istanbul, Al Jazeera reports.

"We are looking for justice here and this will be revealed in all its naked truth, not through some ordinary steps but in all its naked truth.”

President Erdogan and US President Donald Trump spoke on the telephone to discuss Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkish state-run news agency Anadolu agency said on Monday morning.

"Erdogan and Trump agreed the Khashoggi case needs to be cleared up with all aspects,” it stated.

It stated there is "an urgent need for clarification" on what happened inside the Istanbul consulate.

It was previously reported that Turkish officials believe Mr Khashoggi was murdered and his body dismembered.

The late journalist entered the Saudi consulate to get papers for his upcoming marriage.

His fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, a Turkish national, waited outside for him and alerted authorities after the writer did not emerge from the building.

She has since been given 24-hour police protection.
