Friends and well-wishers have raised thousands of pounds in memory of British-born youngster Julian Cadman, who was killed in the Barcelona terror attack.

The seven-year-old, who lived in Sydney, was one of 13 people murdered when terrorists mowed down pedestrians as they drove a van down Las Ramblas on Thursday.

Julian Cadman was confirmed as one of the victims on Sunday, after his father flew from Australia and identified his body.

His mother Jumarie was one of dozens injured in the horrific attack, and is recovering in hospital from leg injuries.

Australian Scott Bowman set up an online fundraiser to help the family, which has so far raised more than £60,000 in just 12 hours.

He posted: “Andrew, Jom and Julian are a normal Aussie family whose lives have been devastated by the recent tragedy in Barcelona.

“Like all families they are paying a mortgage, bills and other sundries. As you can imagine there will be ongoing medical costs to get Jom back to full health.

“Many people have been asking how they may support the family at this time. We are asking for any contribution for those that may wish to help. This will assist with additional medical and funeral costs for the family. We thank you greatly for any support you may offer.”

The mother and son were caught up in the massacre on the city's busy central boulevard, and became separated as the vehicle zig-zagged through pedestrians.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, family members posted desperate appeals on social media to find Julian.

On Sunday, Julian’s family said they "so blessed" to have had him in their lives after confirming he had died.

A statement read: “Julian was a much loved and adored member of our family. As he was enjoying the sights of Barcelona with his mother, Julian was sadly taken from us.

“He was so energetic, funny and cheeky, always bringing a smile to our faces.

"We are so blessed to have had him in our lives and will remember his smiles and hold his memory dear to our hearts.

"We would like to thank all those who helped us in searching for Julian. Your kindness was incredible during a difficult time.”

Police hunting the van driver behind the Barcelona terror attack shot dead prime suspect Younes Abouyaaqoub on Monday.

The 22-year-old Moroccan was cornered in the suburb of Subirats, 30 miles west of Barcelona, while appearing to be wearing a suicide belt.
