Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta remembers Boris Johnson as Boris 'the bicycle guy'

Kenya’s president forgot Boris Johnson’s name today, two months after the former Foreign Secretary left office.

Uhuru Kenyatta instead referred to “the bicycle guy” during a live press conference in Nairobi on the final day of Theresa May’s African trade mission.

Although Mr Johnson visited Kenya a year ago to deliver a fleet of ambulances, Mr Kenyatta struggled to recall his last name.

“Last year if you recall the foreign secretary - then Boris, erm, Boris, Boris Johnson - the bicycle guy - Boris Johnson was here with ambulances.”

Answering questions from journalists, Mrs May defended her Chequers proposals on Brexit which were attacked by her former chief of staff, Nick Timothy, as “a bad deal”.

The PM arrived in Kenya on the last leg of her Africa trip in a sober blue jacket and trousers, in stark contrast to a colourful outfit that critics said made her look like Freddie Mercury.

The prime minister was greeted with a 21-gun salute upon her arrival in capital Nairobi for talks with Mr Kenyatta.

She was later set to meet British troops helping to prepare African Union soldiers battling Islamist terror group al-Shabaab, and announce a UK-backed cybercrime centre to track and prosecute paedophiles.
