London stands with Barcelona “against the evil of terrorism” after the Spanish city was struck by terror, Sadiq Khan has said.

The Mayor of London praised emergency services dealing with the “barbaric” incident that follows similar attacks in Westminster, London Bridge and Finsbury Park.

Mr Khan wrote on Twitter: “My thoughts are with the victims of this barbaric terrorist attack in the great city of Barcelona and with their brave emergency services.

"London stands with Barcelona against the evil of terrorism."

A number of other high-profile figures also voiced support for Barcelona following the latest attack which saw a van plough into pedestrians in a busy tourist area.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted: "Terrible reports from Barcelona. My thoughts are with those killed and injured, and the emergency services working to save lives."

US First Lady Melania Trump wrote: "Thoughts and prayers to Barcelona."

Dozens injured in Barcelona van attack

Police confirmed at least 13 people had been killed in the incident, which a spokesman said was being treated as a terror attack.

At least 15 of the injured victims are believed to be in a serious condition, a spokesman added.

Catalonia's regional interior chief Joaquim Forn told reporters: "Unfortunately the number of fatalities will likely rise."
