Two Los Angeles police officers are fighting for life after being shot in the city of Compton.
Video footage of the attack shows an individual approaching the sheriff's deputies' car late on Saturday, before firing shots into the car and running away.
According to authorities, the footage was recovered from a nearby a metro station.
The suspect remains at large.
Captain Kent Wegener, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD), said at a news conference: "At this point we have a very very generic description of a dark-skinned male and that came from one the victims."
LASD tweeted: "One male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed as they sat in their patrol vehicle.
"Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds and are in critical condition."
President Donald Trump retweeted the video and wrote: "Animals that must be hit hard!"
