Magaluf is now a family holiday destination

Magaluf has transformed itself into a family-friendly holiday destination after a multi-million Euro overhaul has “re-energised" the area.

The party resort, notorious for binge drinking, casual sex and anti-social behaviour is now being billed as a family-friendly retreat.

Located on the Spanish island of Majorca, the infamous tourist hotspot has long been a favourite for young Brits looking to booze it up on their first holiday away from their parents.

But now it looks like the parents won’t be left at home, as the resort attempts to create a safer environment for families.

“We’re very excited about the project of re-energising the area and improving the quality of the establishments here and the quality of the visitors we attract to the area,” said Sebastian Dolinsky, General Manager of the resort's Nikki Beach.

“I think the idea is to try and get away from the binge drink culture that we had in the past and try to change the reputation of Magaluf”.

Magaluf’s multi-million Euro reputation overhaul comes with higher security, a zero tolerance policy of anti-social behaviour. Drinking in the streets is now prohibited.

And it seems change is already afoot in the holiday resort. The young traveller demographic now represents just 22 per cent of tourists, a seven per cent decrease since 2013.

The majority of guests – 70 per cent – are now adult couples and families, an increase of 13.23 per cent since 2013.
