A young man has died after being dragged along by a Paris Metro train when his coat became trapped by the closing doors, French media report.

The 24-year-old was getting off the service at La Motte-Picquet-Grenelle station in the city’s 15th arrondissement late on Wednesday night but his jacket was caught as the doors slid shut.

He was pulled along the full length of the platform and the driver was not alerted until the train reached the next station of Line 6, Le Parisien reported.

Emergency services were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The organisation that runs the Paris Metro, RATO, confirmed to Le Figaro that an investigation had been launched following the incident shortly before 11pm.
