A man who threw his shoes at George W. Bush during a press conference in 2008 has now reportedly launched an election bid in Iraq.
Journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi, who then worked for an Egypt-based television network, was filmed hurling his footwear at the then-US President during a "farewell" briefing with the press in Baghdad.
Mr al-Zaidi shouted "this is a farewell kiss from the Iraqi people, you dog” as he flung both of his shoes towards the president’s head.
The dramatic incident, in which Mr Bush was forced to duck to avoid both of the shoes, was caught on television cameras.
Mr al-Zaidi was arrested jailed for the attempted attack on a visiting head of state and spent nine months behind bars, US media reported at the time.
According to BuzzFeed, 10 years after the shocking incident, he is now running for the Council of Representatives in the country’s parliament.
After leaving the country following his release, the journalist returned there in 2011 to work at charity which aims support those who lost parents during the American occupation of Iraq.
During the dramatic incident in 2008, which appeared on live television, Mr al-Zaidi shouted: “This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.”
As he threw the second shoe, he added: “This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq.”
Mr Bush later joked: “That was a size 10 shoe he threw at me, you may want to know.”
