A housebuyer clinched a dream home for her son by making an offer the sellers could not resist - free pizza for life.

Donna DiNicola, who owns an Italian restaurant, was trying to buy a house for her 23-year-old son Johnny near the family's pizza restaurant in the trendy US city of Portland, Oregon.

Her offer of free pizza for the seller's family every month was written into the legal paperwork detailing her $275,000 bid.

Estate agent Mindy Shierk told local website Oregon Live: "This is the first offer I've written in free pizza.

"We thought, 'We'll try, let's see.'"

It is thought the pizza offer is worth around $10,000.

Ms DiNicola, who runs DiNicola's Italian Restaurant, said she was anxious about securing a property due to spiralling prices and demand in Portland, reminiscent of many boom areas in London.

Fierce bidding wars are commonplace in the city after the market exploded in recent years, Oregon Live said.

Ms DiNicola claimed the pizza proposal was originally a joke, adding: "I swear to you I did not know that made it into the paperwork."

The mum-of-two also allowed the sellers to stay in the house for two months, rent free.

Seller Holly Marsh, whose family can take up the offer once a month, said: "It just goes to show they really did something to stand out among the offers."
