Bishop Brian Tamaki blames 'sinners' for earthquakes

A New Zealand bishop has blamed earthquakes on gays, sinners and murderers.

Bishop Brian Tamaki of the Pentecostal fundamentalist movement, Destiny Church, told churchgoers that the earth “convulses under the weight of certain human sin.

"It spews itself up after a while - that's natural disasters - because nature was never created to carry the bondage of our iniquity."

Bishop Tamaki was speaking the day before a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand ‘s south island, killing two and leaving thousands cut-off.

A video of the sermon was posted on the church’s Facebook page.

The bishop has previously blamed a gay priest and the people of Christchurch for the earthquakes which hit Canterbury in 2010 and 2011, killing 185 people.
