One of the Nigerian schoolgirls taken by Boko Haram in 2014 has given birth to a baby fathered by one of her kidnappers, the country's military has said.

The girl was found with her 10-month-old son in the northern Borno state, said spokesman Sani Usman. It is not clear how she escaped yet.

It comes almost a month after 21 girls were freed following negotiations with the militant group.

In April 2014, 276 girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram fighters who raided a boarding school in the small village of Chibok.

The kidnapping was met with international outrage and prompted a global social media campaign with the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls which was championed by Michelle Obama.

Over 100 of the girls are still unaccounted for.

Boko Haram has reportedly kidnapped thousands of people during its fight to create an Islamic state in northern Nigeria.

The group emerged around 14 years ago in opposition to Western education but quickly radicalised.
