The owners of the Trump International Hotel in Panama are working to strip the US president’s name from the 70-storey building.

Despite its waterfront position, casino and 65th floor swimming pool, the tower has reportedly struggled with poor occupancy.

The owners once paid at least $32 million (£24m) to associate with Donald Trump, but now want to cut all ties.

As well as removing the branding, they want to fire the hotel management company run by Mr Trump’s family.

The Trump Organisation said in a statement the property is doing well compared with peers and that Mr Trump has an enforceable contract to run the hotel.

Owners of apartments and hotel units at the property have previously alleged problems with Mr Trump's management.

They removed his management firm from other building administrative posts in 2015.
