A passenger jet on its way to Pakistan had to be diverted to Manchester after a passenger blocked all its toilets.

The Pakistan International Airlines flight was on its way from Toronto in Canada when the conveniences were put out of action by "something solid".

According to the airline, the mystery substance had been "thrown" down the toilet and, because of the shared drainage pipe, had blocked every single one.

It meant a frustrating five-hour delay to the Lahore-bound flight while the Boeing 777-200's loos were fixed.

After the blockage was discovered on November 19, airline boss Muhammad Azam Saigol pleaded with travellers to read warning signs in the toilets more carefully in future.

A statement from the airline said: "Keeping in view the convenience of passengers the flight has been diverted to Manchester where toilets would be services before the flight continues its onward journey.

"Inconvenience caused to passengers is regretted."

"Passengers need to strictly adhere to and carefully read the warning signs in the toilets," the airline added.
