Perth Airport crash: Plane hits into light tower as it prepares for take off in Australia

A plane crashed into the light tower at Perth Airport as it prepared to take off.

The Cobham Aviation aircraft was taxiing at the Australian hub when it hit the structure, which carries a powerful beacon to signal aircraft.

There were 62 passengers on board, who were mainly "fly in, fly out" workers heading to the Granny Smith Gold Mine. .

One reported feeling a "massive jolt" when it made impact, 7News reports.

The plane appeared to be wedged between the light tower and a terminal. Passengers speculated that the plane's brakes may have failed as it taxied for take-off.

People on the flight disembarked and will be placed on a replacement flight.

Perth Airport said in a statement: “Perth Airport can confirm a Cobham aircraft made impact with a light tower while taxiing in the General Aviation area at approximately 2.20pm.

“Emergency services are onsite however there are no injuries to passengers or crew."

The plane involved was a four engine aircraft and Cobham Aviation said the nose of the aircraft was damaged.

A statement from the company said one of its planes "came into contact with ground equipment" and the incident is being investigated.
