Philippine flooding begins to ease off

Widespread flooding that killed at least 11 people and paralysed the Philippine capital began to ease today as rescue efforts focused on the large number of people still marooned on roofs.

Forecasters said the monsoon rains that overflowed dams and rivers in Manila and surrounding provinces would abate, giving way to sunny weather after 12 days of downpours. The deluge was the worst since 2009.
