Police in Paris arrested a man wearing 12-inch mechanical wrist blades hidden beneath his jacket.

Officers said they spotted a 27-year-old man, referred to as Thomas G, near Saint-Lazare station.

He was wearing a black mask, military-style backpack, sunglasses and a black hood.

In a police report seen by local news outlet The Point, it was also said that G was carrying two self-made concealed wrist blades, similar to those seen on the popular video game Assassin’s Creed.

It is alleged he tried to run when he saw the police but was quickly caught in pursuit and arrested.

Police said the man explained the devices, which were self made and attached with elastic tape, could trigger two 12-inch blades to slide out from under his sleeves.

According to reports, G told detectives he is a fan of cosplay.

G was arrested shortly before the 27th Yellow Vest protest in the capital, which took place on Saturday.

He is now in police custody.

Rebecca Rambar posted a picture of the man's blades on twitter saying: "#France: The questioning of a protestor on the sidelines of the 27th Gillet Jaune protest.

"The individual had concealed two blades that he had attached to his forearm.

"He is currently in custody in #Paris after his arrest by the police [translated from French]."
