Shocking images show the moment a cargo plane smashed through a fence and onto a road in northern Italy after overshooting the runway.

Astonishing snaps show the nose of the Boeing 737-400 embedded in motorway barriers after leaving the runway at Bergamo Airport.

The flight, which had come from Paris, lost control while landing at Orio Al Serio airport.

It then sped through the barriers of a surrounding ring road at around 4am this morning.

One shocked motorist narrowly missed being struck by the plane and shared incredible pictures of it looming over the road.
