This shocking footage shows the aftermath of the Russian Metro station attack in which at least 10 people died

Up to 50 people are thought to be injured following an explosion on the subway in St Petersburg on Monday.

A video clip recorded in the wake of the blast shows train carriage doors twisted and people yelling in confusion.

People can be seen peering through the windows of the train carriage in an effort to see if any survivors are trapped inside.

Another clip shows a platform filling with billowing smoke and eerie silence in the wake of the blast.

A spokesman for the subway in the Russian city confirmed the explosion had been caused by a device filled with shrapnel.

The Metro system was shut down as the country’s president, Vladimir Putin, issued a statement saying the cause was not clear but terrorism has not been ruled out.
