Coffee fans have slammed Starbucks over claims the chain’s new cups ‘politicise coffee’.

The brand’s US stores today launched new limited edition green takeaway cups today featuring a “mosaic of more than a hundred people drawn in one continuous stroke.”

However, the release sparked uproar among American coffee-lovers who accused the chain of replacing traditional red Christmas cups with the new design in a bid to be politically correct.

Despite the chain giving no indication that the holiday cups will not make an appearance this year, customers took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the new design.

One user wrote: “My coffee should NOT (and does NOT) come with political brainwashing.”

Archie Bunker added: “@Starbucks stop pushing your liberal bulls*** and sell coffee. Lifelong customer becoming disgusted with the forced agenda.#HolidayCupsNow”

Starbucks CEO and Chairman Howard Schultz said in a press release: “During a divisive time in our country, Starbucks wanted to create a symbol of unity as a reminder of our shared values, and the need to be good to each other.”

Starbucks said on Twitter that “holiday plans are still under wraps” and urged concerned fans “stay tuned.”
