Surfing dogs fall short of world record

Dozens of dogs took to the waves in California for an annual surfing competition that saw a world record attempt narrowly fail.

Organisers of the Surf City Surf Dog contest had hoped to get 20 dogs to ride the same wave for five seconds.

But the water proved too choppy with many dogs falling off their surfboards and after two attempts the record-bid was halted.
