Trump mocked for confusing ‘origins’ with ‘oranges’

Donald Trump has found himself mocked again on social media after apparently confusing “origins” and “oranges”.

The US President was addressing reporters at a press briefing with NATO general secretary, General Jens Stoltenburg, over the findings of the Mueller investigation and said: “I hope that this investigation now, which is finished – it’s totally finished, no collusion, no obstruction – I hope they now go and take a look at the oranges, the oranges of the investigation.”

Feeling an apparent need for clarity, the President continued: “the oranges of the… uh… investigation, the beginnings of that investigation.”

Mr Trump told the reporters that they would all receive “Pulitzer prizes” if they successfully uncovered the “origin” of the investigation – “where it started, how it started, who started it”, and said he felt disappointed that they hadn’t already done so.

He concluded the speech by reverting to his original word of choice: “The Muller report I wish covered the oranges… how it started, the beginnings of the investigation.”

The President’s confusion has been met with widespread ridicule on social media, with one Twitter user posting an amended title to Charles Darwin's most famous work.

Mr Trump reiterated his claim that Robert Mueller’s report, which was submitted to the US Attorney General last month, “totally exonerated” him of any alleged collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.

Earlier in the meeting, the President claimed his father Fred Trump was born in “a very nice part of Germany”. He was, in fact, born in New York.
