Police who arrested a burka-clad man on suspicion of being a suicide bomber have later learned he was in disguise to meet a secret lover from a dating website, according to reports.

Officers swooped on the man in the Turkish province of Ordu on Saturday after locals reported seeing him dressed in the traditional Islamic garment whilst wearing men's shoes as he talked on a mobile phone.

The 33-year-old man, said to be married with two children, told police he had assumed the disguise in order to meet another woman for a first date, the Associated Press reported.

He was unmasked and held on suspicion of "inflicting fear and panic in the public", Dogan news agency said.

Turkey is on high alert after a series of terror attacks linked to ISIS, including a twin suicide bombing at a peace rally in Ankara on October 10 which killed 102 people.
