A US special agent was injured after accidentally shooting himself in the foot.

The incident happened on Tuesday at Orlando International Airport when the officer shot himself while trying to catch his weapon.

The agent was approaching a security checkpoint at 11.20 am when he went to unsling a shoulder bag and caught it on his holstered weapon.

But as the weapon fell, the officer tried to catch the gun and accidentally pulled the trigger.

Orlando Police Department said the bullet hit the agent in the heel and was recovered a few feet away.

“I was a little taken back that nobody was moving,” Jenny Fulks, a woman who was waiting for her flight told US news outlet, News 6.

“I did see airport officials walking towards the area and it was almost like they were cuing each other. It’s very odd, nothing I’ve ever seen before.”

Officials released a statement that no one else was injured at the scene other than the officer and there were no disruptions at the airport.
