This is the incredible moment a daredevil skier tackles a near-vertical chute in a remote mountain range.

Professional skiier Cody Townsend is flown to the top of a dizzying peak in the Alaskan wilderness before taking the plunge.

The 31-year-old Californian was awarded for taking on the best ski line of the year at the Powder awards after taking on the heart-stopping challenge in the Tordrillo Mountains.

Footage from the run shows Townsend saying "Oh, I’m getting nervous" as he prepares to set off.

He then sets himself at the top of the chute, counts himself in and sets off.
