An incredible video has captured the moment a newborn baby was rescued from a toilet in China after being born unexpectedly.

The infant is shown being fished out of a cesspit underneath an Asian-style squat toilet.

An emergency worker has lowered himself into the pool of waste to locate the baby and, after a few tense moments, the tot is lifted gently out of the hole in the ground.

He or she is gently wrapped up before being taken out into the street and on board a waiting ambulance.

The video, uploaded to video sharing site LiveLeak yesterday, has already been watched thousands of times.

The site says the child's mother "accidentally" gave birth while using the toilet but does not give any further details about where the incident took place.
