If you’re travelling to Greece this summer, you may be confused about the travel restrictions and what’s needed from you to enter the country.

On April 12, the health minister said that the restrictions would be eased on May 1, but less than a week before this date, no official statement on the Covid rules had been made.

But on April 28, Greece’s government finally clarified its new Covid policy that came into effect on Sunday.

If you’re holidaying in Greece this summer, this is what you need to know.

Greece's Covid travel, testing and vaccine rules explained

Greece has dropped all Covid restrictions for people entering the country from May 1. This means that holidaymakers will not need to show proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test.

People travelling to Greece have not needed to complete a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) since March 1.

On Thursday, Greece’s Committee of Experts of the Ministry of Health said that from May 1 the Covid pass would be suspended and capacity would return to 100%. The country is also suspending the EUDCC certificate upon arrival.

However, health minister Thanos Plevris has said that people will be required to wear masks for a little longer. He said: “It is possible that the measure of wearing masks indoors might not be lifted, because the mask is a mild measure.

“What we suggest is that masks indoors will continue in May and then, based on the epidemiological picture in the country, decisions will be taken for June.”

The relaxed rules will also be reviewed in September, as the country could return to tighter restrictions ahead of winter.
