A woman is fighting for life after being stung 200 times by “extremely aggressive” killer bees .

A housekeeper was attacked by thousands of hybrid Africanised honey bees - which are also sometimes referred to as killer bees - in Los Angles on Monday.

During the terrifying ordeal, bees stung her eyes, nose and crawled into her mouth.

Witness Cynthia Emmett, told ABC news: “It was so horrendous. It was awful. And I felt so powerless. There was nothing I could do.”

Nicole Sorenson, of Bee Busters, the company called to remove the insects after the attack, said these kind of bees make up 70 per cent of the creatures found in the region.

Firefighters rushed to the scene of the incident Orange County, California.

They were left with no time to don protective gear so the brave crew used a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher to spray the bees before rushing Maria to safety.

Orange County Fire Authority Captain Tony Bommartio said she is still in a critical condition but is expected to survive.

Two of the firefighters who came to Maria’s aid were admitted to hospital with bee stings.

The owner of the house where Maria was working said she witnessed the horrific attack.

She said: “She was screaming and I was telling her ‘Move from the bees, come over here’, but she was covering her head.”

Sara said she did notice a few bees in the area but didn't think anything of it, according to the report.
