Labour and Tory Brexit deal 'must include public vote'

A cross-party Brexit deal will need to include a second referendum in order to receive the backing of Labour MPs, Sir Keir Starmer has said.

The shadow Brexit secretary warned it was impossible an agreement between the Conservatives and Labour would be backed in the Commons unless the public was given a confirmatory vote.

His comments came ahead of crunch talks between senior Tory and Labour figures today.

There is growing speculation the negotiations will fail, with some cabinet ministers reportedly urging Prime Minister Theresa May to pull out and move to indicative votes by MPs.

Great night for Killing Eve at the TV Baftas

Killing Eve has triumphed at the TV Baftas , with its star Jodie Comer sheding tears as she was named best actress.

The show also won best drama series and Fiona Shaw won best supporting actress.

Bodyguard had been its main opposition but had to make do with one gong, the must-see moment award.

Benedict Cumberbatch won the leading actor award for Patrick Melrose and Ben Whishaw was named best supporting actor for A Very English Scandal.

Health and safety investigation to start into wrestler's death

Investigators will today begin examining the circumstances surrounding the death of a wrestler who collapsed on stage mid-bout.

Cesar Cuauhtemoc Gonzalez Barron died at the Roundhouse in London on Saturday night.

Promoters said the 51-year-old former World Championship Wrestling performer known as Silver King suffered a suspected heart attack during the bout.

Council officers will examine health and safety issues, as well as whether licencing conditions were stuck to.

Two Saudi oil tankers damaged in attack

Saudi Arabia's energy minister has said two of the country’s oil tankers have suffered significant damage in a sabotage attack off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

Khalid Al-Falih did not identify the tankers but said one was en route to the kingdom to be loaded with Saudi crude oil to send to the United States.

It did not cause an oil spill and there were no casualties, he added.

The UAE said the attack targeted four boats but it did not identify any suspects.

Baker tackles royal baby tweet race storm at first live show

Broadcaster Danny Baker received a standing ovation last night at his first live show since being sacked by the BBC for the tweet about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby son.

Baker told the audience tweeting the picture of a chimpanzee in a suit was revolting and misjudged but again denied being a racist.

He joked his pacing up and down on stage was normal and was not to “potential Lee Harvey Oswalds”.

Baker later described the show as one of the greatest nights of his career.
