Jamie Oliver’s first eatery in France has been panned by customers who complained of “bland, overpriced” food and “undrinkable coffee”.

The celebrity chef, who has built a £150m empire from his restaurants, opened Jamie’s Deli at Nice Airport in July, along with a Jamie’s Italian.

But the venture has been criticised online by disgruntled travellers.

Outraged customers took to social media to criticise the new Deli’s “dry” food and “incompetent” staff.

One Twitter user, who tagged the restaurateur in his tweet, said: “Currently in your deli in Nice airport...food dry, food run out, food overpriced. No butter/jam for croissant. No happy at all.”

And another added: “Outraged at the standard of food in the Deli, Nice airport, 8 eu for a Caesar salad with lettuce on the turn and rubber chicken!”

Another angry customer wrote: “Deli at Nice Airport just served me the most undrinkable coffee I have ever had. Politely complained in French. No response.”

And another visitor said: “food in Jamie's deli Nice Airport is bland and overpriced. Very disappointing.”

Others asked the television star to visit the outlet and “sort out” its problems, and that he should be “ashamed” of the food and service.

Despite several negative comments, the chef did receive some positive ones, with one social media user branding it a “life-saver” for parents with hungry children.

The company has been approached by the Standard for comment.

Mr Oliver was awarded an MBE for his services to hospitality in 2003.

He made headlines last month when he launched a stinging attack on Prime Minister Theresa May’s record on tackling child obesity.
