Charity match to boost Petrov fund
A host of current and former footballers, pop stars and celebrities will lace their boots for a charity match.
The game at Celtic Park in Glasgow was organised to raise money for a foundation set up by former player Stiliyan Petrov, who retired after a year-long battle with leukaemia.
The former Bulgarian international had intensive bouts of chemotherapy treatment and is now in remission and established a foundation to support people going through the same experience he faced.
A crowd of more than 60,000 is expected at the match which pits a Celtic XI against a Stiliyan Petrov XI.
Petrov was a popular player throughout his career but tickets for the charity game received a boost when it was announced that One Direction's Louis Tomlinson is to take part.
Other celebrities including comedian John Bishop, Westlife singer Nicky Byrne and actor Martin Compston are also due to take to the field.
Current Premier League stars such as Dimitar Berbatov and Gareth Barry will be involved as will Celtic legend Henrik Larsson, current manager Neil Lennon and a host of former team-mates of Petrov.
Speaking earlier this week the Bulgarian said he expects it to be an emotional occasion.
He said: "The ticket sales have been incredible. That's the way Celtic have always been as a club though. Every single player who has played for this club is still supported, even when they stop playing football and I'm so happy they are still supporting me.
"Sunday will be emotional. I can't imagine what it will be like other than to say it will be great. I left Celtic seven years ago and I have missed the place, especially on the European nights."
