Clinton scheduled to return to work

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is returning to work after being treated for a blood clot in her head
7 January 2013

The State Department says Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is returning to work, a little over a week after she was admitted to hospital with a blood clot in her head.

The department on Sunday released a schedule which has Mrs Clinton meeting with assistant secretaries on Monday morning. The most significant items on her agenda are meetings in Washington on Thursday and Friday with visiting Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Mrs Clinton was admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital on December 30 after doctors discovered the blood clot while following up on a concussion she suffered earlier in December. She was released on Wednesday.

Mrs Clinton is expected to resign from the State Department in the near future.

President Barack Obama has nominated Massachusetts Senator John Kerry to replace her.
