A British former police community support officer (PCSO) is facing 16 years in an Indonesian prison for trafficking drugs worth more than £3,000 into the country's second-largest city.

Andrea Ruth Waldeck, who once worked for Gloucester Constabulary, was arrested in April after authorities found 1,472 grams (52 ounces) of methamphetamine crystals in her underwear at her hotel room in Surabaya,

Prosecutors are seeking the 16-year prison in her trial at Surabaya District Court and a fine of around £100,000

Waldeck, 43, said that she was asked by her boyfriend, who lives in China, to take the drugs to a man in Indonesia.

More than 140 people are on death row in Indonesia for drug crimes, a third of them foreigners.

Waldeck's trial started in September, a month after Indonesia's Supreme Court upheld a death sentence for Lindsay Sandiford, another British woman who was convicted of smuggling 3.8 kilograms of cocaine into the resort island of Bali.

Waldeck made no comment in court. Her lawyer said the sentence requested was too long because she was not a dealer.

The next session of Waldeck's trial is scheduled for January 6, when the defence will make its final plea.
