New prosthetics for jailed Hamza

Radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza has been given new plastic prosthetics
16 March 2013

An Egyptian Islamic preacher with no hands who was extradited from Great Britain to face terrorism charges in a New York court has received new plastic prosthetics to replace the metal hooks he had used previously.

Mustafa Kamel Mustafa, better known as Abu Hamza, received the prosthetics on Friday.

He did not wear them to federal court in Manhattan, where he appeared later in the day.

Hamza is awaiting trial on charges that he conspired with Seattle men to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon.

He also is charged with helping to abduct two American tourists and 14 other people in Yemen in 1998. He has pleaded not guilty.

Defence lawyer Joshua Dratel said Hamza so far is disappointed with his new prosthetics. He says it is now harder for him to grip pens and other items.
