4 May 2012

Supermarket chain Asda is to cut its fuel prices by up to 2p a litre.

From Friday, drivers filling up at any of Asda's 195 forecourts nationwide will pay no more than 136.7p a litre for petrol and 141.7p a litre for diesel.

The move means Asda's fuel prices have come down 4p a litre over the last three weeks.

Asda's petrol trading director Andy Peake said: "It's been a tough year for motorists but today's latest move shows that Asda is once again leading the way in reducing the price at the pump."

Later, Sainsbury's said it would, from Friday, be cutting its petrol and diesel prices "in many of our stores by up to 2p a litre".
