11 March 2014

A woman had her arm mauled and broken during a second dog attack in the same city in just 24 hours.

Police were called at around 1.45pm to Keats Close in Lincoln after receiving reports that a 38-year-old woman had been bitten by a dog.

It came just a day after a 22-year-old woman, named by sources as Joanne McCord, suffered serious injuries to her scalp after being attacked nearby by an an American pitbull.

Police said that during the second incident the victim suffered bites and a suspected broken arm inflicted by what is believed to have been a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The injured woman is thought to have intervened in a fight between two dogs before the attack.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "Armed police officers attended the address and humanely destroyed the dog with the consent of the owner.

"Two other dogs in the vicinity have been taken into the care of the Lincoln City Council dog warden for their own welfare pending the identification of their owners."

The second incident took place at the same address where a man was arrested earlier in the day in relation to the first attack.

Police said the 33-year-old male was being questioned in police custody, and added that he was not a resident of Keats Close.

Ms McCord, who was attacked near a quarry on Outer Circle Road, was said to be out of surgery and recovering at Lincoln County Hospital.

Police caught the animal which attacked her at 1.30am after launching a hunt using armed officers and a helicopter.

A spokesman confirmed that the victim was not the dog's owner and that t he animal was later taken to police kennels.

Staff at Lincoln County Hospital had raised the alarm at around 10.30pm last night after Mc McCord was admitted with her injuries.

The two attacks are the latest in a string of incidents involving dogs in recent times.
