Adam urges Scots to be positive

Charlie Adam said there is no point even thinking about defeat against Wales

Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam refuses to countenance the prospect of defeat against Wales in Friday night's crunch 2014 World Cup qualifier at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Craig Levein's men drew their opening two Group A matches at home to Serbia and Macedonia and with four points dropped already, it is widely believed that only victory against the Welsh will do if Scotland are to retain realistic hopes of qualifying for Brazil.

"Let's be positive, let's try to get behind the team, like the Scotland fans try to do, and try to get the three points because this could be the start of something on the road to Brazil and hopefully we can continue that on Tuesday night against Belgium," he said.

The former Liverpool, Blackpool and Rangers player refused to concede that the Welsh camp are in apparent turmoil as they approach their make-or-break double header against Scotland and Croatia.

Wales go into the game on the back of a demoralising 6-1 thrashing in Serbia which followed a 2-0 home defeat to Belgium in their Group A opener.

Under-fire manager Chris Coleman, who has lost all four games since taking over from the late Gary Speed, subsequently took the captaincy away from 21-year-old Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey and gave it to Swansea defender Ashley Williams.

However, Stoke star Adam said: "Are they in turmoil really? I don't think they are. They have good players."

He added: "Whatever happens in the Wales camp happens there.

"For us, it's about concentrating on ourselves and looking forward to the next game.

"We go there with confidence, we have got good players in our team and hopefully we can perform and try to get three points."
