Day three of this year's Wimbledon Championships is getting under way - with six British players left in the main draw.

Five are already through to the second round - a best return since 2006 - with Jamie Baker's game against Andy Roddick yet to finish owing to bad weather on Tuesday night.

The quintet to have progressed are headed by Andy Murray, so long the flagbearer for the home nations, with support this time being offered by Elena Baltacha, Anne Keothavong, James Ward and Heather Watson.

Three of those won on Tuesday - Watson was victorious on Monday and faces Jamie Lee on Wednesday - and there was a further feel-good factor around SW19 after seasoned campaigners Baltacha and Keothavong were given Olympic wildcards.

Her next Wimbledon assignment will pit her against defending champion Petra Kvitova, while Keothavong will likely meet Sara Errani - on match point against Coco Vandeweghe when the rain fell.

After beating Laura Pous-Tio, Keothavong said: "It was good. I made it a little difficult for myself out there. It's a first-round match at Wimbledon and you're bound to be a little nervous."

In between the two women was a five-set win for Ward over Pablo Andujar.

His 4-6 6-0 3-6 6-3 6-3 success provided Murray with some long-craved back-up on the men's side of the draw, and the Londoner was quick to call it as his best win.

"Of course. Wimbledon is the biggest tournament in the world," he said. People keep telling me that I'm not far away and this makes it all worthwhile."

Baker is 4-2 down to Roddick in the second set having lost the first on a tie-break.
