Coe set for Tokyo role

Sebastian Coe will play a key role in overseeing the preparations for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, it has been announced.

Lord Coe has been included on the International Olympic Committee's co-ordination commission for Tokyo, and will be able to contribute his experience of having led the London 2012 organising committee from start to finish,

Coe, who is now chairman of the British Olympic Association, will represent the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) on the commission, which is being chaired by Australia's IOC vice-president John Coates.

Meanwhile, the IOC's finance chief Richard Carrion has resigned from his position.

Carrion, from Puerto Rico, was beaten by Germany's Thomas Bach in the IOC presidential election last month and will step down as head of the finance commission.

The IOC said in a statement: "Following Richard Carrion's decision to resign from his different positions within the IOC, the president and he agreed that in order to assist in this transition process, Mr Carrion would continue to lead the TV negotiations already under way outside Europe until the Sochi 2014 Games."

Another of the IOC presidential candidates, Ser Miang Ng from Singapore, has been asked by Bach to chair the next meeting of the finance commission in December.
