Cummins going home

Pat Cummins has been ruled out by a side strain
1 July 2012

Australia's prospects of battling back against England were dealt a blow on Sunday morning when it was announced Pat Cummins is injured and will play no further part in the NatWest Series.

The teenage fast bowler suffered a side strain during Friday's first match at Lord's.

"Pat sustained an abdominal muscle strain on his left side during the first ODI at Lord's," Australian team doctor John Orchard said.

"While he was able to complete his 10 overs, he was sore after the game and was scanned - the results of which have revealed a medium grade side-strain.

"This will keep him out of the remainder of the England tour. His return to cricket will be decided in due course, based on follow-up examinations in Australia."

The tourists, hoping to level the five-match series at the Kia Oval today, have decided not to call up a replacement.
