Future uncertain for Suarez
Striker Luis Suarez admits he does not know what his future holds and while he insists he is very happy to be at a "spectacular" club like Liverpool he also considers the time may be right for "change of environment".
With the Reds' failure to qualify for the Champions League again, the Uruguay international's future has been the subject of much speculation. That increased when the 26-year-old gave an interview to a radio station in his homeland in which he suggested he could not ignore approach from Spanish giants Real.
His agent Pere Guardiola has intimated the striker was content at Liverpool and the player has reaffirmed that himself, although he has far from ruled out an Anfield exit. "I do not know when I'm going and I do not know if I'm staying," said Suarez at a national team press conference ahead of a friendly against France on June 5 in Montevideo.
"Obviously the club want me to stay, but I've talked to the coach (Brendan Rodgers) and he knows what I want. He was a player and my team-mates understand that my situation is difficult. It's a good moment for a change of environment because of all I've been through in England, where I haven't been judged as a player but based on other things.
"I have only words of thanks to the club, the fans of Liverpool, but the treatment I received from the rest of England in recent weeks has been tough. It (Liverpool) is a spectacular club, but they are aware of the way that the press treats me".
In his radio interview on Wednesday, Suarez complained about what he perceives as harsh treatment by the British media. He has rarely been out of the headlines since his move to Anfield in January 2011 - but it has all been of his own making.
Firstly for his eight-match ban after being found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra, then after admitting diving to try to win a penalty and then in April his bite on Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic which resulted in a 10-game suspension, six of which must be served next season.
"I had a hard time, very hard, in the things that have been said are lies. One has limits and the family also suffers," he added. "They treated me bad and it would be understandable if one day I go to my club (and the media are waiting) but I cannot walk my baby, the paparazzi are always there."
Madrid would obviously offer an escape from that but Suarez insists his reference to Real was an understandable but not yet tangible one.
"England and Spain are the best leagues in the world," he said. "It is normal that it is impossible to say no to big teams for which one always dreams. Yet I have nothing, I have not spoken with Real Madrid nor with Liverpool."
