An unnamed member of the German Olympic team at the Sochi Winter Olympics has had an adverse result for their A sample drugs test.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) announced the finding in a statement and revealed that the B sample result and International Olympic Committee disciplinary commission hearing would be held later on Friday.

The DOSB statement read: "The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has been informed on Thursday evening at 2130 Sochi by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that a member of the German Olympic team's A sample has given an adverse result.

"The results of the B Sample and the hearing before the IOC Disciplinary Commission are scheduled for this Friday.

"Thereafter, the chef de mission will report on the status of the process."

No other athletes are known to have had an adverse result to a drugs test at the Sochi Games, although Russian biathlete Irina Starykh, one of the host nation's brightest medal hopes, was withdrawn from her country's team before the Games after failing a drugs test.

Germany are currently lying third in the medals table with eight gold medals, four silver and four bronze.
