Johnson to rest ankle injury

Glen Johnson will not be rushed back
4 September 2013

Liverpool have not put a timescale on Glen Johnson's return from injury after confirming the right-back suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday's Barclays Premier League victory over Manchester United.

The 29-year-old limped off the pitch after 78 minutes of the 1-0 win and, after leaving Anfield wearing a protective boot, he was forced to withdraw from the England squad that will face Moldova and Ukraine.

Liverpool have not offered a prognosis for the former Chelsea player's recovery but prescribed at least one week of rest.

A statement published on the club's official website read: "After being examined by the club's medical staff at Melwood, Johnson is required to rest his ankle this week.

"A further review will then take place to check stability and decide on further management.

"Therefore, Liverpool have not put a timeframe on Johnson's return to fitness at this stage."
