Lotus stick with Renault

Lotus have finally confirmed Renault will continue to supply their power units.

The Enstone-based marque's new car, the E22, made its debut on the first day of the second pre-season test in Bahrain on Wednesday powered by the latest Renault system.

But despite a collaboration going back to 1995 - when the team was formerly known as Benetton - Lotus had yet to formerly announce an extension of their supply contract with Renault.

It is understood Lotus' off-track difficulties, with the departure of key staff and their ongoing financial woes, played a part in the delay.

But the team have now revealed a deal with Renault "for this season and beyond".

Lotus chief executive officer Matthew Carter said: "We have enjoyed a successful partnership these past few years and we look forward to continue to build on our relationship and collaboration.

"It is the beginning of a new era in Formula One and we are pleased to embrace it together with Renault Sport F1."

Renault has, however, endured a troubled start to pre-season, most notably encountering a number of issues with two of their other teams in Toro Rosso and world champions Red Bull.
