Murray levels tie for Britain

Andy Murray brought Great Britain level at 1-1 in their Davis Cup quarter-final against Italy in Naples on Saturday.

The Wimbledon champion swept aside Andreas Seppi 6-4 7-5 6-3 in a match held over from day one.

The Scot started the day one set up and level at 5-5 in the second and wasted little time in strengthening his hold on the contest.

He took the opening two games of the day to move 2-0 up before his opponent threatened to stage a comeback as he broke for a 3-1 lead in the third.

Murray, though, hit back, rattling off five straight games to seal victory in three hours and seven minutes.

It left the match finely poised following James Ward's opening-rubber loss to Italian number one Fabio Fognini.

On Thursday there had been doubt whether Murray would take to the court at all as he battled a virus, while the condition of the clay court caused problems, and he may have to play a second match on Saturday, potentially teaming up with Colin Fleming in the doubles .
