Sam Robson has been in fine form during the winter

Sam Robson strengthened his claim for a Test spot this winter as his 146 not out helped the England Lions secure a series victory over Sri Lanka A with a draw in Colombo.

The Australian-born batsman batted throughout the final day at the Premadasa Stadium as the tourists closed on 273 for five to seal a 1-0 success.

Robson, 24, who started the day on 18, lost three partners as spinner Suraj Randiv helped reduce the Lions from 39 for one overnight to 123 for five.

But he shared an unbroken 150-run stand with Varun Chopra to clinch the draw, with Chopra finishing unbeaten on 53.

Robson's century was his third of the tour and fifth of the winter after two for the England Performance Programme in Australia.
