Trott looking to get even better

Laura Trott is already focusing on the Olympics in 2016

As she prepares to head south for the winter, Laura Trott is targeting self-improvement between now and her Olympic title defences in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

The 20-year-old capped a year which saw her win team pursuit and omnium titles at April's Track Cycling World Championships and August's London Olympics with another double at the Track World Cup in Glasgow.

"This year, out of any year, is the least pressure year for me," Trott told Press Association Sport. "Although I've just done what I've done, it's stepping stones. I just want to make sure that I'm the best I can be at Rio, rather than worrying about the worlds in the middle."

She added: "If it means having come away from the worlds say, having won the points race, but lost every other event (in the omnium), then so be it, because that's the event that I really need to work on."

Trott, who is part of a group which travels to Australia for training on Wednesday for one month, is seeking to build for February's Track Cycling World Championships in Minsk, Belarus and Rio by improving in the bunch events.

Poor results in the points and scratch races have made her omnium victories tighter than they might otherwise have been.

"I've seen sunlight for one day, so it will be nice to see it for a month, to escape the bad weather," she added.

"I come back for Christmas and hopefully then I'll be fighting fit for worlds."
