Westwood could seek help

Lee Westwood is considering seeking some professional assistance with his long game after squandering a two-shot lead in the final round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Westwood looked on course to win the European Tour's flagship event for the first time at the 20th attempt when he birdied the second, third and fourth to go from one shot behind to two in front. But the 40-year-old crumbled to a back nine of 40 and carded a closing 73 to finish three shots outside the three-man play-off, which was eventually won by Italy's Matteo Manassero.

"It's swing mechanics more than anything," said Westwood, who has been without a full-time coach since splitting with Pete Cowen last year. "So I just have to slow it down. I haven't really had a chance to look at it recently. I might go home and do that properly."

Asked if it was something he could fix on his own, Westwood added: "I don't know. That's what I'm contemplating, whether to go and see somebody again.

"I haven't seen somebody for a while now and maybe I just need a professional opinion on it, another set of eyes looking at it, but I'll decide that."

Westwood has been delighted with improvements in his short game since moving to Florida over the winter, but does not have much time to fix his long game before he competes in the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour this week.
