Naomi Campbell is among the stars of the new Pirelli calendar that was unveiled in London on Thursday .

The 2024 calendar entitled Timeless was shot by Ghanaian visual artist Prince Gyasi, and celebrates people who have made their mark and are destined to inspire future generations.

Other stars include actors Angela Bassett and Idris Elba, author Margot Lee Shetterly and poet Amanda Gorman.

“We are not born ‘timeless’, but we become it,” the artist said. “All the people photographed have been able to recognise their abilities and establish themselves. They have found their power, changing their destinies. This is what it means to be timeless.”

He added that his subjects, photographed in the vivid colours and sharp contrasts which have made him famous, are for him “like superheroes, but at the same time relatable”.

Of supermodel Naomi Campbell who appears in the Calendar under the title “Time Stopper”, he says: “When you look at figures like Naomi, she’s not of my generation, but she’s still an icon in my generation. This can only happen if you’re committed to your work and beliefs”.

Gyasi is the latest of the 39 artists who have created a Pirelli Calendar in the brand's 60-year history, he is also the first black photographer to do the honours.

Speaking of this history-making moment, he told British Vogue that his involvement had been a no-brainer.

“It’s been happening for 60 years and no Black [photographer] has been able to touch it, so it was important for me to open the gate for African creatives – or Black creatives in general," he told the publication.

“Eighty per cent of the crew were Black people,” he added. “It’s important to show that my people can do it all… It’s about empowering Black people. That’s what my mission has always been.”
