This year’s Boots Christmas advert tells the touching tale of a mother and her teenage daughter and the importance of giving a gift that 'gets' them.

The pharmacy chain’s tear-jerking scene is set to a cover of Robbie Williams’ 1998 hit ‘She’s The One’ – which is instead called ‘She’s Me Mum’.

It starts with Clare trying to do her daughter’s hair in a glamorous up-do, but ultimately failing. Like a typical teenage girl, Molly is seen getting moody and frustrated despite her mum’s efforts.

The young girl continues to show more adolescent behaviour whilst being guided by Clare, with beauty playing a central role in their relationship.

In another scene that many families can relate to, Molly is shown all dolled up and ready to leave the house for a night out, but her mum sends her back with a pack of face wipes.

The advert then cuts to Molly spotting her mother in a choir – which is made up of Boots colleagues and London community choirs – at a Christmas market, singing her heart out with a strikingly colourful pout.

After seeing her mum for who she really is, Molly decides to gift her a red lipstick for her next performance.

Helen Normoyle, marketing Director at Boots UK, said, “Christmas and the festive period is a perfect time to bring together friends and family, and we wanted to really celebrate this special connection by focusing in on the spirit of beauty gifts showing you really understand your loved ones.

“The story charting the relationship between the mum and daughter was a perfect example of how even when we’re close to the ones we love, we can often take their unique traits for granted.

“Working with our own Boots colleagues in the choir and having a fresh take on a well-known song provided a fun and touching way to bring our proposition to life.”

The Boots advert comes after major retailers – including Aldi and Tesco – kicked off the Christmas ad battle.

It airs for the first time on November 10 during the X Factor live show.
